YMI managing director and CEO Tomotaka Ishikawa told ET, “We will enter the scooter market but are yet to finalise the segment and the products. Once we introduce our new range of bikes in early 2008, we will concentrate on the right kind of scooter for the Indian market. We plan to hit the premium segment first and target customers who prefer to go for style and power rather than use scooters for their commuting needs.”The company is likely to introduce its automatic range of scooters with dual disc brakes and twin-shock chassis with high-powered liquid cooled engines in the premium segment. Engine Features
645cc displacement with a bore and stroke of 81.0mm x 62.6mm and a compression ratio of 11.5:1
An automatic Idle Speed Control (ISC) system is integrated into each throttle body, and produces stable idle while improving cold starting and reducing emissions immediately after start up.
An oval throttle pulley helps smooth low rpm/mid-range power delivery
Clutch release mechanism is changed from ball-screw type to cam type system and the transmission gear engagement dogs are strengthened to help improve shifting of the six speed transmission. .
Conventional pressed in iron liners are replaced with Suzuki's own race proven nickel-phosphorus-silicon-carbide coating (SCEM), which reduces friction and improves heat transfer, durability and ring seal.
Dual spark plugs cylinder heads feature iridium spark plugs reduce spark plug electrode degradation and allow the electrode to be finer producing a more intense, hotter spark and further enhancing combustion.
Each 39mm throttle body carries a 10-hole fuel injector. The extra-fine atomization injectors produce an average spray particle diameter that is smaller for improved combustion efficiency
Each cylinder head features a compact combustion chamber with two 31mm intake valves set at 14-degrees from the cylinder centerline and two 25.5mm exhaust valves set at 16-degrees from the cylinder centerline.
Fuel pump is lighter and more compact and located within the 15 liter fuel tank.
Increased low-to-mid range torque output as well as a broad and smooth power delivery are produced through changes in Cam profiles, valve lift, a 10% increase in crankshaft inertia, newly staggered intake and exhaust tract lengths and an increase in exhaust system volume. All this without affecting top end power.
The efficient radiator is both light and narrow, while the liquid to liquid oil cooler reduces overall weight.
Single valve springs reduce inertia weight and mechanical losses while maintaining accurate valve control.
SDTV fuel injection system uses two butterfly valves with the primary valve controlled by the rider and the secondary throttle valve controlled by the engine management system to maintain proper intake air velocity needed for maximum combustion efficiency and improved throttle response
SFV650 is powered by a sporty fuel injected, DOHC 90-degree V-twin engine based on the proven SV650 powerplant famous for its long term reliability, broad power and quiet rumble.
The engine is so efficient in burning fuel that it doesn't need a secondary system to inject fresh air into the exhaust ports to ignite unburned hydrocarbons.
The SFV650 has a catalyst built into an exhaust chamber mounted underneath the engine and connected to a stylish upswept muffler.

YZF-R125 - Inspired by genius

Ever heard the expression ‘Small is beautiful’? It could have been created for the all new YZF-R125, the exciting new member of the R-series family and the most advanced 125 production supersport machine that Yamaha has ever built. This radical, high-revving, fuel-injected 125 is the work of the same engineers who created our legendary YZF-R1 and YZF-R6 supersport bikes. And, as you’d expect, the YZF-R125 is packed with advanced MotoGP technology as well as a whole range of R-series type engine and chassis features. Its liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, 4-valve, single cylinder, SOHC engine is tuned to deliver free-revving performance right through to maximum power at 9000rpm – and for instant response and efficient operation this remarkable 6-speed 125 is equipped with a compact fuel injection system. The race-inspired chassis features a Deltabox frame and aluminium swinging arm for outstanding handling performance, and lightweight 5-spoke wheels help to minimise unsprung weight to give impressive road holding. A large diameter 292mm front disc with a 230mm diameter rear disc make for effective stopping power, and the aggressive R-series bodywork lets everybody know exactly where this bike is coming from. The YZF-R125 is targeted at the discerning buyer who demands best-in-class engine and handling performance as well as winning R-series style. In the engine department, the new R125 benefits from a 4-valve cylinder head that delivers high levels of intake and exhaust efficiency for ultra-responsive performance. For instant throttle response, this new high-tech 125 features a compact fuel injection system fed by a large-capacity airbox which, combined with the two inlet valves, delivers optimum intake efficiency together with excellent throttle response across the rev range.Featuring bore and stroke dimensions of 52mm x 58.6mm, the compact short-stroke engine has a free-revving character that delivers strong acceleration. This short stroke layout – combined with the performance-boosting qualities of the 4-valve head, fuel injection system and free-flowing exhaust – gives the R125 the strongest overall performance in the 125 4-stroke class.Performance is also enhanced by the fitment of a free-flowing largecapacity R6-style mid-ship muffler, whose location helps to centralise mass for neutral handling performance. The exhaust system accommodates dual catalysers, as well as an air induction system which introduces air into the exhaust to enable more complete combustion of any unburnt gases, and in doing so it helps to reduce emissions to even lower levels. To optimise the class-leading performance characteristics of its all-new high-tech 125cc liquid-cooled engine, the R125 is equipped with a 6-speed transmission which keeps the engine on the boil and ensures a competitive top speed.Engine technical highlights• Liquid-cooled single-cylinder 4-stroke• SOHC 4-valve cylinder head• Wet-sump lubrication system• Fuel injection• Electric start• 6-speed transmission• R6-style mid-ship muffler• Dual catalysers• Air induction system• Class leading performanceFull-sized chassis with Deltabox frameJust like its larger R-series brothers, the new R125 features a lightweight Deltabox frame which delivers an optimum balance of strength and rigidity for class-leading handling performance. The twin spar Deltabox design has proved to be one of the lightest and best-handling frame designs in the supersport category, and its use on the new YZF-R125 underlines Yamaha’s total commitment to building the best-handling machine in the class. One of the most significant features of the new R125 is that it has been constructed with a full-sized chassis, which is unique in its segment. For example, the wheelbase on the new Yamaha R-series is 1353mm, over 58mm greater than a typical sports 125, which helps to enhance stability. The larger physical size of the machine also allowed Yamaha’s designers more freedom in creating a sporty yet comfortable riding position. And finally, the larger chassis gives the machine far greater presence on the street. With its unmistakeable R-series styling, the R125 stands out in the crowd, and is easy to mistake for a much larger capacity machine. The dual headlights have a distinctive R-series look, while the low frontal area and small tail are clearly influenced by the bigger R-series bikes. And like the chassis, the bodywork is fullsized, making this new sportsbike the most impressive looking machines in the class.Complementing the race-bred Deltabox frame is a cast aluminium swinging arm. By keeping unsprung weight low, this high quality swinging arm allows the link-type rear suspension system to operate more efficiently and deliver more responsive handling qualities.Equipped with large-diameter 33mm tubes, the smooth-action front forks are designed to deliver accurate steering together with good rider comfort. For easy manoeuvrability this high quality front suspension system features a steering angle of 24.2degrees and trail of 86.1mm. And with 130mm of wheel travel – over 20mm more than some other models in the class – the full-sized forks on the new R125 perfectly complement the Deltabox frame and aluminium swinging arm to deliver stable yet responsive handling.High build quality is evident wherever you look on the new R125, and the front braking system is another example of Yamaha’s commitment to using only high-specification components. The large diameter 292mm front disc is slowed by a compact twinpot caliper which delivers strong and progressive braking performance for good controllability over a wide range of speeds. The large single front disc is complemented by a 230mm rear disc, giving the R125 rider accurate control in town as well as on the open road.As well as ensuring that the unsprung weight is minimised in order to enhance the front and rear suspension performance, the distinctive 10-spoke alloy wheels give the R125 a unique look.

Honda VFR800 Interceptor to be Launched in India

At the heart of the Honda VFR 800 is its 781cc DOHC 90-degree V-4 VTEC engine, which combines the power characteristics of both two- and four-valve cylinder-head designs. This revolutionary engine runs on two valves per cylinder below 6400 rpm, and then switches to four valves per cylinder to deliver significantly stronger low-end and mid-range torque while maintaining Interceptor’s impressive high-rpm power delivery.
43mm Honda Multi-Action System (HMAS) cartridge front fork provides enhanced handling under all riding conditions, while the Pro-Link single HMAS gas-charged shock does the duty at the rear. Ensuring that high speed touring doesn’t leads to backaches.
Honda VFR 800 is equally capable at night, thanks to its four brilliant multireflector headlights which employ two centrally positioned H4 low/high beams positioned under two widely spaced H7 high beams for brilliant nighttime illumination.
These features make the Honda VFR 800 Interceptor just the right weekend motorcycle for most, which would happily take you to majority of the weekend destination in comfort and style.
However all this comes at price, Honda VFR 800 Interceptor’s non ABS version would likely cost Rs. 10 lakhs in India, while the ABS version is expected to be priced at the same price as the Yamaha R1

New Honda VFR Confirmed for Spring 2010 Delivery

We’ve got an update on Honda’s hotly-anticipated new V4-powered bike. It has been confirmed by Honda’s Senior Managing Director, Shigeru Takagi, that the new VFR will be seen in its finished form sometime this Fall, and will be in dealer showrooms next Spring.
The VFR1200, as you might have guessed from its name, will be a 1200cc version of the VFR model line. With the added displacement, the new V4 will take on the likes of the Hayabusa and ZX-14R, while Honda phases out the 800cc VFR and CBR1100xx.
In a rare interview last week with MCN, Takagi said the bike will be a “new breed of Honda”, which is a phrase we’ve heard Honda saying a lot of recently. There certainly seems to be a cultural shift occurring in the Honda ranks.
“We really believe we can develop a new era starting with this V4-powered machine. It is just the beginning and represents a new breed of Honda which will define Honda’s own taste and styling. This bike will be the perfect road machine that Honda customers have called for. It will be an epoch-making machine and more bikes from the V4 platform are possible. We know people think this bike is going to be a replacement for the VFR800 and the Blackbird but we do not see this bike as a replacement for anything. We see it as an all-new breed of machine, something very special.”
With the final form of the VFR still a hot topic, Togei did say that, ”the bike is different to the concept shown for the first time at Milan in 2009 but the link between them is very clear to see.” We look forward to seeing the spyshots as they come available.

2010 Ducati Multistrada 1200 Photos Leaked

EICMA must be leaking like a sieve, as this is the third leak we’ve gotten ahead of next week’s show (check for a view of the 2010 Aprilia Shiver 750 & 2010 Aprilia Dorsoduro Factory). This time, we’ve gotten pictures of highly anticipated (or is it hyped?) 2010 Ducati Multistrada 1200.
These photos appear to be the first official shots of the new Multistrada 1200, and they show off not only the “S” version with its Öhlins suspension, but also give a good look at the bike with its OEM saddle bags (could this be the “T” touring model that was rumored?). Click after the jump to see what the fuss is all about.

2010 Victory Motorcycles

t’s the mo-o-o-0st wonderful ti-i-i-i-ime of the year!” It’s not Christmas, though. It’s the 90 days between now and October, when all of the bike manufacturers begin showing off the new year’s models. Old friends get a little facelift, and we get introduced to new models that make us drool…or think, “Seriously, what were they thinking?!”

Honda jumped the gun last week with a few bikes that I didn’t really care enough to post about, but today, Victory comes to the table with their whole lineup. As part of that lineup, Victory introduced two new bikes to its touring line, both of which are aimed directly at Harley Davidson customers.

The 2010 Victory Cross Country is the Street Glide analog, with full bags and a fairing with a funky modernistic design that sets it apart from the plain-vanilla bat-wing. The Cross Roads is a Road King analog, with full bags but no windshield on the stock model.

Both bikes sport the air-cooled Freedom 106 cubic-inch (1731cc) V-Twin engine, and both have the maintenance-free belt drive, and sport a 6-speed transmission. In addition, both of them use the CORE concept components I wrote about here a little while back. Also, both the $17,999 Cross Country and $15,999 Cross Roads have 18″ long floorboards, so your feet will be comfy.

The remainder of Victory’s 2010 lineup seems pretty close to what we’ve seen for the last two years, although they’ve switched the….uh…aggressively styled Vision product line around a bit.

2010 Honda V4 – ‘a new breed of bike’

Honda’s Senior Managing Director Shigeru Takagi told MCN that the much-awaited Honda V4 will be unveiled this autumn and see dealerships in spring 2010. Also, while celebrating Honda’s 50 years of racing at the Isle of Man TT, Honda boss referred to the bike as being a “new breed of Honda”.

Ducati to unveil 10 new models by 2010

DUCATI plans to launch 10 new bikes by 2010, according to an announcement made during a presentation to the firm's backers January 16. The first three are the 2008 Monster 696, 848 and 1098. Three more will follow in 2009 and four in 2010. After the Monster 696, all models will be “premium” bikes, which presumably means a larger capacity than the new Monster.

We predict 2009 will see further derivatives of the new Monster platform being launched, possibly accompanied by higher-performance versions of the 848. A new Multistrada could be in the cards for 2010, or even a new sports tourer.

Yamaha YZ250 - 2010 Model!!

Yamaha has long been known for doing things with passion. Their engineers started with a blank piece of paper and the aim to create the best handling 250cc MX bike. This is the result according to Yamaha's PR and promotional material.

ENGINE:

• The valve spring retainers are now lightweight aluminum instead of steel, and valve spring pressure is lighter for reduced valve-opening force. This contributes to superior low-to-mid range torque characteristics due to less power-robbing friction. There’s also a new, higher lift cam profile, while valve stem ends are chromium-nitride coated for exceptional reliability and reduced maintenance.

• The exhaust port shape has a “D” shape instead of round. This increases velocity through the port for excellent throttle response, while enhancing the power feeling of the engine.

• The newly designed radiator is lower and further back and the oil tank is more compact and repositioned to achieve greater mass centralization.

• The carburetor bore has a new venturi shape, plus there’s recalibrated jetting and a new accelerator pump. This translates to impressive response when the rider snaps open the throttle, and contributes to superb torquey low-to-midrange power characteristics.

• The intake boot offers a straight, smooth tract for excellent engine breathing and more power. The airbox is reshaped to tuck neatly into the Bilateral Beam frame. • The exhaust pipe has been carefully tuned to optimize engine power, with a muffler that’s 50mm longer and with a narrower core – a design that lets the YZ250F comfortably meet the latest noise standards without sacrificing power.

• Engineers were able to increase the clutch spring load for stronger engagement, yet, thanks to a recalibrated clutch actuation arm cam ratio, lever pull is actually lighter than before.

• Third and fourth gear ratios are slightly taller, and third, fourth, and fifth gears are stronger than ever with new drive dog shapes for positive engagement. That gives riders a strong gearbox that’s been carefully matched to engine power characteristics.

CHASSIS/SUSPENSION:

• The Bilateral Beam frame is crafted from a carefully chosen combination of forged and extruded aluminum pieces – 20 in all – all welded together to provide unmatched rigidity balance.

• The KYB speed-sensitive front fork delivers exceptional damping feel, responsiveness, and bump absorption characteristics. Damping settings are revised, the piston rods have a new surface treatment, and the oil seal is a new design.

• The 4-way-adjustable KYB rear shock has been redesigned to make the most of the Bilateral Beam frame design. It’s lower in the frame for excellent mass centralization, and has new damping characteristics.

• The new tank, seat, and rear fender are flat and the relationship between handlebars, pegs, and seat result in a natural, more forward riding position that facilitates rider movement. The fuel tank has been moved toward the center of the bike for mass centralization. The ProTaper bars are four-way adjustable, and handlebar mounts and footpegs are 5mm higher to optimize rider position on the new chassis.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES:

• The CDI unit has revised ignition mapping to match new engine intake and exhaust specs.

• Riders have a choice of two color options: Team Yamaha Blue and White or White and Red.
